Black (Label) Friday Cards!

Beckett Grading Services’ Black Label Pristine 10 is the Holy of the Holy, or Unholy of the Unholy depending on your point of view of the giant grader of collectibles. As this Friday is Black Friday and we are fully fueled on Johnnie Walker Black, it serves as a perfect opportunity for us to kick off our new regularly featured post “Black Label”.

No matter how you feel about Beckett or its brethren grading service providers one thing is for sure, these cards command a high price. The cars feature perfect 10 grades for all categories Centering, Edges, Corners and Surface and ultimately have an incredibly low population.

Since 8/27/17 prices on eBay have been all over the map and as you would imagine vary with the popularity of the player. On 9/12/17 81kingpanhter sold a 2013 Bowman Chrome Refractor Kris Bryant Auto Black Label for $7,250.

This was not an auction nor did it have a Best Offer option so the price was the price. The Beckett Registry shows that there are 17 grade 10 examples of this card and 4 have reached the rarefied air of the Perfect 10. Currently there is a non-refractor Black Label version for sale on eBay for the sharp pencil price of $7,499.99. This price might be high not only because it is not a refractor but because of the 959 graded examples 128 are 10 and 17 are adorned with the black label. Still, for those of us that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and saw Topps push out trading cards like a micro-cap company in the throws of a death spiral pumps out shares of stock, a population of 17 is still pretty nice. However, the “make offer” button might be one you will want to push if you are going to buy this beauty.
